Event Types Overview

EVENT TYPES provides a way to create and manage a variety of types of events. There is no limit to the types of activities you can define. Typical activity types include Dinners, Conferences, Concerts and Tournaments.

Event IDs

Event names are followed by an Event ID, for example "Annual Benefit Gala Dinner (ID:5)". These are internal Event ID's (e.g. event record number). Similar to IDs assigned to Profiles, the ID numbers make it easy to format URLS used in various places on your website.
You can create links to the Event Information or Event Registration screens from other pages and blocks in your Drupal or Joomla! CMS.
Example: "mysitename.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=5" links to the Event with (ID:5)

Configure Event Types

Go to Administer in the menu along the top of the page. In the CiviEvent section, choose Event Types.

You will see a list of existing event types (Standard options are Dinners, Conferences, Concerts and Tournaments). You can create a NEW event type, change the Order of the Event Types, or Edit, Disable or Delete EXISTING event types using the links to the right of each event type.

NEW

To enter a New Event Type, click on the >>New Event Type link at the bottom of the list of event types.

Type in the Label, Description and Weight. You can enable/disable the event type by checking or unchecking the box labeled Enabled?

Click Save to save the event type.

If successful, you will see the message:

EXISTING

ORDER

For EXISTING event types, you can change the order that they will appear in drop-down menus by using the green arrows to move them up a row or down a row. The shorter blue arrows with a line above or beneath them lets you move the event types to the top or bottom of the list.

EDIT

Selecting Edit will bring you to the Edit Event Type Options page where you can change the Label, Description and Weight for the activity type. Here you can also enable/disable the activity type by checking or unchecking the box labeled Enabled?

Click Save to save the activity type.

If successful, you will see the message:

The Event Type "Dinner" has been saved.

DISABLE

Select Disable to temporarily disable an existing event type. You will see the warning:

"Are you sure you want to disable this Event Type? Users will not be able to select this value when adding or editing Event Type"

Click OK to continue or Cancel to cancel disabling the event type.

To re-enable the event type, simply click on Enable.

DELETE

Select Delete to delete the event type. You will be given this warning:

WARNING: Deleting this option will result in the loss of all Event Type related records which use the option. This may mean the loss of a substantial amount of data, and the action cannot be undone. Do you want to continue?

Click Delete to continue or Cancel to cancel the deletion.
