The Atlanta Audubon Society supports conservation of birds by supporting conservation efforts and providing teaching opportunities for learning about birds to people in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan region.

We began using CiviCRM version 1.2 in early 2006 and it is now our primary vehicle for keeping track of our local members. Data entry volunteers record membership information (names, addresses, etc.) and yearly membership renewal payments. We then use the CiviCRM database to output mailing lists. At this time we distribute a monthly newsletter via snail mail.

In the future, we plan to distribute our newsletter via e-mail to our members who have an e-mail account. This should cut our mailing and printing costs.

We also plan to encourage online renewals and online contributions and will track these using the CiviMember and CiviContribute modules. We will also use CiviCRM to track volunteer hours. Volunteer hour tracking is important because it allows us to show the commitment of our members as we seek to grow our organization. Many grant applications request volunteer hour reports as part of the application.

So far, CiviCRM has been helpful to us because it allows us to input data from multiple locations. We can manage our membership list from anywhere that has an Internet connection.
