Import Membership Type

Can I Import Membership Type?

QUESTION:
I am currently importing Member Records for a Professional Association from Access to CiviCRM.
I have standardized the Member Types across the two platforms: Charter, Full, Regular, Associate, etc. I have created the CiviCRM Member Types using CiviMember in a 1.7 Beta installation.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to Import these Member records so that the Member Types in CiviMember are inserted automatically?

RESPONSE:
You should be able to do this as a two-stage import. Create an import file that has contact info (name, email, etc) + membership type column (Charter, Full ...) + membership status column + start and end dates.

1. Use this file to Import (create) the contact records (mapping name, email, address etc but NOT the membership info).

2. Use the same file from CiviMember >> Import Members ... and map first name, last name, email as "Match to Contact" - and map your membership columns (type, status, start, end).
