We held our first Skypecast gathering on July 6, 2006.
Agenda
- Feedback on 1.4 "pain points"
- Review and Discussion of upcoming 1.5 release features
- Sharing info on use cases and add-ons
Meeting Summary
- Approx 25 people attended
- Primary 1.4 concerns related to memory issues and performance with larger datasets. Our benchmarking on 1.5 "alpha" indicates substantial improvements in memory usage for long-running operations (e.g. contact import, CiviMail mailings...), as well as speed improvements in CiviMail and search.
- There was a request for us to put together meetings for prospective and new users, as well more advanced and technical folks. We are very open to that - so please let us know if you are interested in participating or helping facilitate such gatherings.
- We reviewed the major new features and improvements coming in v1.5. You can see a listing with links to detailed specifications here.
What's Next?
- One very important thing you can do to help build CiviCRM is to contribute case studies / brief descriptions of how your organization is using the software here.
- We also need help writing and improving our documentation. Please contact me (Dave Greenberg - dggreenberg at gmail dot com) directly if you are available to help write or expand a page or section!
We're shooting to have some kind of online gathering on a bi-monthly basis and we'd appreciate feedback regarding the Skypecast "media" as well as the content of this "meeting." What worked? What could be improved? Please add your comments to this wiki page.
Rob Thorn's audio was much louder & clearer than everyone else, especially Lobo.
What device was Rob using - and can everyone get a similar device?
I like these meetings. I had some trouble hearing Lobo, but in general like Skypecast format. With a bit of advance notice I'd be happy to review some projects or contributions next time if desired.
