Does CiviCRM need reports to be useful?
If so what would those reports look like?

Event report.
List of how many attended (total), how many signed up with contact information, how many were expected at the event, total dollars collected (if charged for).

We currently dont do events, though its high up there on our list of useful functionality. Once we do that, i suspect the above will be part of event functionality

Doesn't need reports to be useful, but does need reports to be successful, or widely adopted IMHO. I'd like to see the ability to create and save report screens, also produce graphs w/ imagemagik.
Many of the nonprofit's decision makers I've talked to who could really use CiviCRM seem to be wowed by Salesforce's dashboard aproach to reports. So something along the same line would be very helpful.

Pledges made, pledges that are near their due dates, pledges that are past their due dates.
