    I am an end user.
    The relationship feature is outstanding. However, I'd like to be able to search and export relationship contact information.

    For instance:
    Jane Smith has donated in the names of her children, Jack and Joe.

    I want to be able to send a thank you letter to Jane and mention her two children.

    I also want to send two letters, one to Jack, one to Joe, and let them know that Jane has given in their names.

    Thoughts? Suggestions (if this is already avaialbe and I simply couldn't find the UI for it)?

    Thanks,
    Seth

    My initial thought is this is best served by reporting, which is on the 1.3 roadmap. I would build a report that I would run every time I did thank you notes. I would then look at the report and personalize all the thank yous with a simple line of text that refers to their kids, dogs, whatever custom fields are relevant, etc.

    You can get the information you specify by going to Jane Smith's record and clicking on the Relationships tab, where you will see a list of all of Jane's relationships.

    Sounds like the reporting feautre for 1.3 will provide the functionality I'm looking for. I'll be able to create a report that says, "show me all records with relationship = child"? I'd like to see Jane Smith, who has two children living at 2 different addresses, appear twice in the report.

    I have seen the individual record dispaly of relationships – very useful when interacting with an individual.

    In the above framework are you using contact to mean individuals? That's what it seems like. Yet, you can "import contacts" that are organizations and households.

    Is the expectation that every individual associated with an organization will be entered as an individual with a link to that org? And that the organization address information will be repeated as (say) the work address for each individual?

      Elin - The description above which uses Contact to mean Individual is a bit misleading. In the CiviCRM framework, contacts can be Individuals OR Households OR Organizations. Relationships can be defined between any of these contact types. Examples:
      Sibling : Individual <-> Individual
      Household Member: Individual<->Household
      Subsidiary of: Organization<->Organization
      etc.

    Relationship Search:

    The Relationship feature is great, and I'm very glad that I was able to import relationships. Here's the problem: Our Chapter has 17 local groups. I need to be able to seach for group chairs or group committee delegates in order to create a Smart Group. I need the same feature to create a smart group for committee chairs or committee members (Chair of - Energy Committee, Member of Marine Committee). Our Individuals may have a varied number of leadership roles, and the relationship field is the only good place to store that information. Unfortunately, if I can't search a relationship, then I can't create smart groups based on leadership titles. A static field would not work because most of us serve on many committees.

    Individual --> Organization (<local groups names>, <committee names>)

    • Chair of
    • Member of
    • Delegate of

     How can I solve this?

    If the solution is posted somewhere, please accept my apologies for not finding it, and post the URL here.

    Thanks,

    Pedro

      Pedro,
      Relationship search is definitely being implemented in v1.5 - an issue will be posted on our issue tracker shortly.
