You can import contributions from an existing application.

You must save the information in a CSV file.

ContactID and Contribution type are required fields.

This means that you must first import the contacts corresponding to the contributions if they are new donors. Contribution types are defined on the Administer CiviCRM page in the Civicontribute panel.

You can create custom fields for your records by going to AdministerCiviCRM and selecting Custom Data. On the wizard screen for "Used For" select "Contribution."

After creating your custom fields and data files, click on "Civic Contribute" on the main CivCRM menu.

On the left you will see "Import Contributions" on the menu. Click this.

The wizard follows the same basic procedure as the import contacts wizard: match fields between your data and civicrm, preview, save or make corrections.

Note that 1.4 has an improved contribution import where u can create contacts while importing a contribution. We follow the normal rules for de-dupe matching. We figured this was significantly easier user experience (smile)
