Someone reminded me this weekend that there's legal issues
surrounding the personal information of children, that is people under
the age of 13. In short, you have to get the parent's permission and
the burden is on you to do so. Also, the parents determine how the
information is used and have to be given an opt-out. Here's a link to
the law:

It would be great if the folks building the CRM system put in
something to help website operators control display/searching/etc. of
contact information from children. Also, is anyone aware of a site
that's currently doing this well in their collection of
profile/contact data?

The common way to deal this is NOT to collect contact information for children. ...The common way to deal this is NOT to collect contact information for children. Especially for website operators, it is critical to not register children or collect CRM data on them.
In the case of the CRM system, info on children will probably be collected and associated with household information. This is commonly done for fundraising purposes especially when targeting major donors.
If a website is connected to that CRM data, then you might have a situation in which you need to protect children's data... in that case, there responsibility rests with the CRM system operator... they shouldn't allow access to their system to folks that will not protect the data therein.
